Over the last few days, Facebook have released a new logo design for Facebook Inc. to distinguish the corporate parent from its apps and other software.
The more astute of you will notice how this parent logo ties all of it’s app together, through the use of colour. Here is the new logo
The logo changes colour from blue, green, purple, red and orange. These are all colours from their apps, namely Blue for Facebook, green for WhatsApp and purple, red and orange for Instagram.
The new branding aims to tie all of the Facebook group of products together beneath the main Facebook brand.
Antonio Lucio, Chief Marketing Officer at Facebook said:
“We’re introducing a new company logo and further distinguishing the Facebook company from the Facebook app, which will keep its own branding.
People should know which companies make the products they use. Our main services include the Facebook app, Messenger, Instagram, WhatsApp, Oculus, Workplace, Portal and Calibra. These apps and technologies have shared infrastructure for years and the teams behind them frequently work together.
We often employ very similar tactics when creating brands and sub brands. The main brand forms the emphasis of the company, with the sub brands taking on a similar theme to aid familiarity and recognition.
Sometimes we carry over the typeface, colour or icon to the sub brand, making each brand instantly recognisable as part of a larger company.
