Individually, the power usage from a typical individual website is rather low, but collectively websites user over 400 terawatt-hours a year, that’s around 3.7% of global greenhouse gas emissions!

Website hosting is monitored by PUE (power usage effectiveness), which describes how efficiently a servers use energy. Good hosts are around 1.2, however our website and email hosting servers are at 1.1. This is because we have the best tech inside our servers, making them ultra efficient, meaning less power is consumed and our services are faster.

Our main source of power for our servers is solar, located a short drive in Nottinghamshire. Luckily as it’s often not the greatest weather here in the Midlands, solar doesn’t require cloudless skies, lots of power is generated all throughout the day. This is because solar panels produce electricity from the photons present in natural daylight, rather than from the sunlight itself.
